Totoro!
So over Summer I finally watched a few films I've been meaning to watch for ages. One of them being My Neighbour Totoro.
The story follows 2 little girls and it's one of the cutest films I've ever seen. If you love sweet stories then definitely go and watch this film!
My Neighbour Totoro was written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. After watching, and loving, this film so much I decided to check out some of his other films. So far I've watched Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind. While these films are all different you can see certain similarities. There's always a nod towards what I'm assuming is traditional Japanese spirituality, although I'd have to research Japanese traditions a little more before being certain about this. There's something magical about all of them and the animation itself it just beautiful.
If you've never seen an anime film then I suggest you start with something by Hayao Miyazaki. It's like watching a painting tell you a story.
Speaking of painting I became a little obsessed with Totoro so decided to do a little fanart...
Your opinions would be much appreciated!!!

30 Day Challenge - 11. Your current relationship
Ok before I start this post properly I want to say I'm sorry!!! Uni took over my life last week and I've totally sucked at keeping up with blog posts. I need to get back into some kind of routine I think. I'm not going to try and do all the challenge posts I should have done up to now, because it would not be fun, I'm just going to act like I didn't miss a week and carry on from where I left off.
Anywaaay...
This is my lovely boyfriend and I. I feel like I'm mentioning him a lot in these blog posts so you already know how much he means to me. He's the one person I can always rely on to be there for me and to cheer me up when it all gets too stressful. I don't know what I'd do without him.

30 Day Challenge - 10. Your views on drugs and alcohol.
Well obviously illegal drugs are bad. I don't know what more to say on that subject. I've never tried any and I don't intend to.
Are we including smoking in this? If we are then I don't mind people smoking around me, both of my parents smoke so I'm used to it. However I've never tried a cigarette myself and, again, I don't think I ever will. I also really don't understand how it's supposed to make you look cool... That just seems ridiculous to me.
Now on to alcohol. I do drink, but not to excess. I do not see what is fun about going out and getting hammered and feeling rubbish the next morning. I get tipsy every now and then but I've only been really drunk once and I don't want to repeat that thanks.
The only people that annoy me more than the ones who think it's cool/funny to go and get hammered are the people who shove it down your throat that they don't drink. Believe it or not, that doesn't impress me. Nor does it make you better than everyone else who does drink. Get off your high horse and loosen up a little.
In fact me and my bf drink so little that when I just looked in our drinks cupboard all we have is 2 bottles of red wine, brandy, port, dark rum and vodka. All of that being mine a part from the vodka. Now this might make me sound bad but I can tell you that I got the bottles of wine as gifts, the brandy my bf got given at work and the port was left over from a house party I threw 2 years ago.
We're really not big drinkers at all, but if you're feeling generous and fancy buying me some sloe gin or Jack Daniels then I'll be your best friend forever! ;)

(Just a little side note. I know I've only put this up today, 26th, but I did write it all on the correct day so I've changed the date to reflect that)

Theatre
So I just went through and looked at my posts and I've realised I've not mentioned theatre properly in any of them. I'm kind of disappointed in myself, especially as that's what I'm studying at university!
To resolve that and make myself feel a little better I'm going to show you some pictures from a show I did earlier this year called "The Importance of Being Earnest". I designed the set for this show and had to do it by recycling pieces that we already had at the university as we only had around a £300 budget for the entire show.
Anyway I'll start off with some close up pictures of the set pieces, all I did with them was modify them a little (take bits off that I didn't want, fill in holes etc.) and then paint them. I ended up with a team of very talented painters (mainly the cast) who I couldn't have done it without!
This window is totally wrong for the type of house this is supposed to be but, like I said before, I had to work with what was already at the university. The picture that you can see in the window is actually a photo I took in the local park. I'll try and remember where I saved those pictures and I'll do another blog post with them in.

I also painted the fire place, which you'll see in the photos below, but I'm not putting any close up pictures of it on here because I honestly don't like it. I would do it so differently now, but I guess that all just part of the learning experience.
I don't think the pictures quite do it justice but at least now you've all had a little insight into what I do while I'm at university.

30 Day Challenge - 8. Something you're currently worrying about
Ahhh I'm late with this one, but I'm still counting it as Thursday because I've not slept yet.
This is going to be a short one cause my main worry at the moment is what I'm doing this year at uni. As I don't know and it's kind of an important year.... Eeeek. Hopefully will be able to figure it all out next week once we're back.

30 Day Challenge - 7. Your opinion on cheating on people.
If there's anyone out there who actually thinks cheating is a good idea then they need their head checked.
If you want to sleep with another person then you're clearly not 100% in your current relationship. So why still be in it? Maybe some people feel that they get some sort of thrill out of it but if you want to sleep around then why are you in a relationship in the first place.
I guess I just really don't understand why anyone would want to hurt another person like that.
Although the thing that annoys me most is when you hear in the news about a famous couple and one of them cheated (usually the man, no offence) and then the next day you hear the girl is still with him. Why would you put yourself through that? Unless he genuinely only did it once with one other person then, personally, I wouldn't give them a second chance. If they've only done it once then ok maybe they made a mistake but to carry on with the relationship if he's cheated multiple times? I just don't think those kind of guys ever change.
Obviously the same applies to women too but you don't hear about women cheating so much. I guess it's cause we're more "emotional" or something.

30 Day Challenge - 6. Why do you like the person you like?
Is it bad that I'm finding it hard to answer this?
I guess the thing I like most about him is he's not afraid to be himself. He doesn't feel the need to conform to what people think. Although this annoys me sometimes when he won't even come to the pub with me I'd much rather him be an individual than a sheep.
When I say he doesn't conform though I don't mean he shoves it down everyones throat that he's not like them and that he's original etc. He is just himself, all the time.
He's also surprisingly clean for a boy.

30 Day Challenge - 5. 5 little things that annoy you about the opposite sex?
Ok so before I get on with the list I'd just like to say that none of these are directly about my lovely boyfriend, on the annoying scale he's actually very low.
So on with the list!
1. The age old problem of the toilet seat. Now I know not even all girls put the lid down too, which I do, but seriously why don't they put the seat down? It's just something that I've never understood, and probably never will.
2. Their eating habits. Boys are supposed to eat more than girls, I get that. But why do some boys seem to think their food is going to get up and run away so they must eat it as quickly as possible? Eating an entire steak in 2 bites is not pretty.
3. Their fascination with video games. As a gamer myself I do get this, to an extent. What I don't get is why they're preferable to other aspects of life like reading or watching films or just generally socialising. Also I don't understand why they always like the war based games, I play video games to escape reality, not to pretend I'm fighting in a war.
4. Scratching inappropriate places in public. We all know guys seem to have this fascination with sticking their hands down their trousers at any given moment but that is taken to a whole new level when they start scratching or "adjusting" themselves. That's why we have toilets, go do it there! I don't want to see that!
5. Taking the piss out of the tiniest mistakes you make. This just really makes me want to punch them in the face, yes I made a mistake in speaking or whatever. No this does not give you the right to make me feel about 3cm tall for making said mistake.
I'd just like to finish by saying a special thank you to my friend Jodie, I would not have written this post in time without you and your vast knowledge of guys' annoying habits!

30 Day Challenge - 3. What kind of person attracts you?
I'm going to take this in the sense of friend's rather than romantic interests. Also I only have half an hour left for this post to count and for me to still be successful at this so I'm gonna try and make this quick.
I tend to gravitate towards people who have similar interests in myself. At least a little bit. However I can be quick to change my opinion of people once I get to know them. If you're quiet then I'll be more likely to talk to you than if you're loud and brash. But if I don't like you once I get to know you then I won't stick around.
The personalities of people I tend to like are the people who will be straight with you, they'll tell you when you screw up, they'll tell you when you do something they don't like and they'll expect you to treat them the same way. I also tend to have more girl friends than boys, probably because I'm a really girly girl at heart and like to have people to share this with. I also go for people who don't hide their feelings, I like my friends not to look at me like a loony when I spew out all my emotions all over them. (Nice image in your head there? Hehe).
The simplest way to put it I guess is if you're nice to me, then I'll be nice to you.

30 Day Challenge - 2. How have you changed in the past 2 years?
As a person I don't think I've changed too much, except I'm a little more confident at letting the world know about all my nerdy hobbies.
I think the biggest change has been that I have an idea of where I want to go in my career, and I'm really excited about it!
When I was little we used to go to Camelot theme park quite a bit. My favourite parts of the day were when we went to see the Sooty puppet show and the jousting show. I've since found out that the company who do the jousting at Camelot also have jousting and medieval shows all over, not to mention the work they've done in films and TV.
They incorporate so many things I love into their shows. Horses, medieval things, theatre, live shows, TV, film need I go on? For me those are all things I'm really interested in and would love a career that incorporates just one of those, let alone all of them!
If I could work somewhere like Lionheart Entertainments and spend my days surrounded by everything medieval, even if my job was just to continuously muck out the horses, I'd be happy.
Can't wait to work out what I'm doing in my third year and see if I can get some work experience from these guys!

30 Day Challenge - 1. Weird things that you do when you're alone.
Oh geez where to start...
So the recent thing that people (that I've told) seem to find a bit odd is I like watching Youtube videos. No I don't mean the ones of the cute cats or the other animals doing funny things. I mean the ones that people make which feature people, not animals, and aren't about how cute or funny something is. Also when I say I watch them I mean it's become a sort of obsession.
As in I found this Youtube account about a month or so ago. They have a total of 872 videos (as of writing this blog...) starting in 2007 and going all the way up to today. (Yes I mean today, John Green uploaded a video 3 hours ago according to Youtube). Now why am I telling you this? Well since discovering this glorious collection of videos I have watched almost all of them. I am currently somewhere in the midst of March 2011. I've watched these 2 brothers grow and it's really jokes to see how people change. I've also learnt a whole bunch of really awesome stuff and been introduced to some pretty nerdy inside jokes. (French the Llama, puppy sized elephants, stuff on your head, in your pants, in my pants and giant squids of anger are but a few).
Chances are that if you watch their videos and like them then you are a Nerdfighter.
I hope you watched that video because if you didn't and you're confused about what a Nerdfighter is I'm not going to explain it!
The really amazing thing to see is not how the brothers themselves have changed, it's how they've changed the world around them and the face of Youtube itself. From a project which started out as 2 brothers trying to only communicate through video blogs for a year it's spawned an entire community. They've created events both virtual and in real life that are highly successful. In their backlog of videos you'll find many different genres. There are funny, happy, sad, angry, educational, musical, scientific, mathematical, literacy, drunk, ill, sleepy, cute and thoughtful videos. Not to mention the countless videos encouraging you to give to charities and explaining what those charities do and how they decrease world suck. I genuinely think there is something there that everyone will enjoy and I hope you go check them out.
Another couple of Youtubers who I follow are nerimon and charlieissocoollike. I literally only just realised that the only people who I regularly watch the videos of are guys. Weird...
So I hope you don't all think I'm a complete freak now for watching hours and hours of Youtube videos but I genuinely have learnt a lot whilst doing it. For instance I now know who Phineas Gage was, what a quark is and that the Webb telescope is pretty much the most awesome thing to be sent into space ever!
See you tomorrow for another part of this 30 day challenge.

30 Day Challenge
My friend Rachael just wrote a post about this challenge and it looks like fun. So I'm going to give it a go and really actually try to finish something this time!!! Hopefully this should be easier as all I need to do is type. I don't need to take a picture or doing anything else other type the things that pop into my head when I read what it says to do.
Will post the first one in a separate post as I am inclined to ramble about things and I like to keep my blog posts short. Ish.
Will post the first one in a separate post as I am inclined to ramble about things and I like to keep my blog posts short. Ish.
Oh Cumbria.
Why is
your weather so bi-polar? Today we've had torrential rain, beautiful sun
and blue skies and then more torrential rain.
I do love
it here though. I love the fact that when I met up with a friend from
school this summer we could walk for 10 minutes and be at a gorgeous cool
river, which we proceeded to paddle in.
I love
that, if I have enough time, I can take a walk through a park/field to get
to university (it's called a park but most of the time there are cows
living there). I love the fact that I feel safe, all the time! I
love the fact that I can live happily in the town centre and the only thing
that wakes me up is deliveries to the shops, not drunk people and sirens.
Most of all I love the people that I've met here (this isn't including my
boyfriend who, obviously, is pretty much the most important person in my life
right now). There's a
special few who I know have changed my life forever and I hope that I can keep
them in my life for many years to come.
(Love this girl. Probably more than is healthy.)
I totally
didn't mean this to turn into a sentimental post... But I kinda like it.
If you ever get the chance to come to Cumbria please make sure to see
more than the Lakes. There are some beautiful towns and people up here.

Pizza braid
Oh how I love stumble. I found this a couple of days ago and just made one! (It's in the oven, quite excited!!!)
It's a pretty cool twist on a normal pizza. One tip though, before putting your fillings on the dough and braiding it put it on the baking tray. You do not want to go through what I just did...
Will post pictures of my attempt at this once it's cooked!
