So if you read my blog regularly you’ll know that I love the vlogbrothers. Back in early 2011 one of the brothers, Hank Green, decided to start a website encouraging people to read the book before they saw the movie adaptation. As a book lover myself I loved this idea and was so excited to start receiving their email newsletters about it! However my excitement was short lived as there was a total of 2 newsletters sent out, the last being in November last year. I’m not going to lie, this is something that has incredibly disappointed me.
In light of that I’ve decided to do it myself! Every month I’m planning to let you all know what movies are coming out that are book adaptations so that you can, if you want to, go and read the book first! This will be mainly focusing on movies that are coming out in Britain as that’s where I live. Feel free to let me know about any movies that I miss and I hope you enjoy reading the books first!
There's a lot of strife going on in internetland the past couple of days. Personally, I'm not sure about that particular campaign (you know which one I mean).
Something I do believe in though is a website called Kiva. The video below explains what Kiva is all about better than I ever could so give it a watch!
The best bit is that, for a limited time only, Kiva are giving new members $25 for free which you can then loan to someone in need. You don't have to spend a penny, only a little of your time, as all of these new loans are being sponsored by the cofounder of LinkedIn.
I gave my $25 to a woman in Jordan who runs an embroidery business. Who will you give yours to?
Click here to go to Kiva and help someone fund a business to support themselves!
It's probably not bothering any of you but it's bothering me!
I suck at keeping a schedule for this blog... Although it might help if the last week and a half hadn't been spent at university more than my house. I'm not even exaggerating.
And then the second I stop working, I mean literally about half an hour after I finished an essay, I get tiny chicken disease!!!
The hell! Tiny chickens get out of my head now please!
So the recent thing that people (that I've told) seem to find a bit odd is I like watching Youtube videos. No I don't mean the ones of the cute cats or the other animals doing funny things. I mean the ones that people make which feature people, not animals, and aren't about how cute or funny something is. Also when I say I watch them I mean it's become a sort of obsession.
As in I found this Youtube account about a month or so ago. They have a total of 872 videos (as of writing this blog...) starting in 2007 and going all the way up to today. (Yes I mean today, John Green uploaded a video 3 hours ago according to Youtube). Now why am I telling you this? Well since discovering this glorious collection of videos I have watched almost all of them. I am currently somewhere in the midst of March 2011. I've watched these 2 brothers grow and it's really jokes to see how people change. I've also learnt a whole bunch of really awesome stuff and been introduced to some pretty nerdy inside jokes. (French the Llama, puppy sized elephants, stuff on your head, in your pants, in my pants and giant squids of anger are but a few).
Chances are that if you watch their videos and like them then you are a Nerdfighter.
I hope you watched that video because if you didn't and you're confused about what a Nerdfighter is I'm not going to explain it!
The really amazing thing to see is not how the brothers themselves have changed, it's how they've changed the world around them and the face of Youtube itself. From a project which started out as 2 brothers trying to only communicate through video blogs for a year it's spawned an entire community. They've created events both virtual and in real life that are highly successful. In their backlog of videos you'll find many different genres. There are funny, happy, sad, angry, educational, musical, scientific, mathematical, literacy, drunk, ill, sleepy, cute and thoughtful videos. Not to mention the countless videos encouraging you to give to charities and explaining what those charities do and how they decrease world suck. I genuinely think there is something there that everyone will enjoy and I hope you go check them out.
Another couple of Youtubers who I follow are nerimon and charlieissocoollike. I literally only just realised that the only people who I regularly watch the videos of are guys. Weird...
So I hope you don't all think I'm a complete freak now for watching hours and hours of Youtube videos but I genuinely have learnt a lot whilst doing it. For instance I now know who Phineas Gage was, what a quark is and that the Webb telescope is pretty much the most awesome thing to be sent into space ever!
Why is
your weather so bi-polar? Today we've had torrential rain, beautiful sun
and blue skies and then more torrential rain.
I do love
it here though. I love the fact that when I met up with a friend from
school this summer we could walk for 10 minutes and be at a gorgeous cool
river, which we proceeded to paddle in.
I love
that, if I have enough time, I can take a walk through a park/field to get
to university (it's called a park but most of the time there are cows
living there). I love the fact that I feel safe, all the time! I
love the fact that I can live happily in the town centre and the only thing
that wakes me up is deliveries to the shops, not drunk people and sirens.
Most of all I love the people that I've met here (this isn't including my
boyfriend who, obviously, is pretty much the most important person in my life
right now). There's a
special few who I know have changed my life forever and I hope that I can keep
them in my life for many years to come.
(Love this girl. Probably more than is healthy.)
I totally
didn't mean this to turn into a sentimental post... But I kinda like it.
If you ever get the chance to come to Cumbria please make sure to see
more than the Lakes. There are some beautiful towns and people up here.

life is to convert energy into beauty." - Hank Green
So if you know me at all you'll know I'm a big Harry Potter fan. (And I'm ever so envious of Rachael at Island Girl Insights who has actually been to the HP theme park!!!)
Since the last film came out I've pretty much constantly been obsessing about HP. It's probably not healthy but I don't have a job so it's doing a good job of filling up my days. I've been doing everything from reading the books and watching the films to re-playing Lego Harry Potter Year 1-4. (Must. Get. 100%!!!)
Then last week was the release of the Magical Quill Clues which granted you early access to Pottermore. I managed to be one of the lucky few who registered on the very first day so hopefully won't be waiting for my welcome email for too long! *fingers crossed*
Anyway to celebrate my 21st birthday last week (YAAAY!) I decided to experiment with some Harry Potter related recipes I found here a few weeks ago.
I made Acid Pops, Liquorice Wands, Butterbeer and Cauldron Cakes.
That's a picture of my cauldron cakes without their handles. Aren't they adorable?!?! I'm making a video where I talk about everything birthday related so I'll be posting that soon, where you get to see completed Cauldron Cakes! With handles and EDIBLE GLITTER!
I have to say they were surprisingly simple to make and were delicious! You can find the recipe for these here. (Looks at how cute they look with the handles!!!!) I substituted buttercream for the filling as it's hard to find marshmallow fluff over here and I really couldn't be bothered making my own.
I will post more birthday happenings once all the birthday happenings have happened... In other words I've not been to my parents yet so will put the video up once I've seen them and all by birthday things have finished!
DFTBA!
P.S. DFTBA = don't forget to be awesome. I think you should all check out Vlogbrothers.
Ok so it's officially only 52 minutes until I turn 21. Then I will be able to legally drink alcohol in all of the US states. Which will be helpful if I ever go to the US and fancy a cocktail or two.
I've not posted in a bit because... Well if I'm honest I just got a bit annoyed at this entire blogging thing. Not particularly with my blog but with some others that I've been following. Maybe I'm getting the idea of a blog entirely wrong but surely you write a blog because you like to write? And if you like to write then you should care about how you write. No? So if both of these things are true then you should care about your spelling and grammar? (Feel free to leave a comment if you think I'm talking crazy.)
I've been following a lot of blogs recently and it infuriates me to see people writing blogs with incorrect spelling and grammar. This vexes me most when it's someone whose first language is English. If you can't be bothered to learn how to write your own language properly then why are you bothering with a blog? A blog is all about writing! Have some respect and pick up a dictionary once in a while.
Sorry for the rant but this is a pet peeve of mine and really gets me wound up!
If, like me, you prefer your grammar and spelling to be correct at all times then you might like this book.
It's a very good and amusing read! I know that I picked up on a lot of grammar that I didn't know about or had forgotten from this book.
